Father-in-law should be receiving military honors but due to covid he will only receive flag. Was thinking about playing the salute over sound system. Need to know at what point to play and if it would be appropriate?

Can you please explain the following to me:
Police, Fire, and EMS Funeral Customs: “Casket Watch and Honor Guard Full military-style honors should be available to those heroes who die in the line of duty, starting with a casket watch. The duty of those who have the high honor of casket watch is to stand vigil during the wake or viewing. A team of two takes a 15–30-minute watch (beginning 30 minutes before the viewing and ending 30 minutes after), one at the head and one at the foot of the casket, facing each other. A second team relieves them every 15–30 minutes.”

As a military veteran I have often wondered about this. The military serves the country as a whole and first responders serve their respective communities and states.

Thanks,
Joe

We live in Samoa since 2009. We have a dual citizenship American and Samoan. Our son came to visit us in 2012 and committed suicide. We own property on freehold land, which is paid for and we hold the title. We want to move back to the States but we are being told we have to dig up my son’s grave, wash the bones and dry in the sun. Out Samoan oil on the bones, put the bones in a sack and gave the bones inspected by the police and the hospital, then buy a new plot in a cemetery and re bury him!

1. If we still own the land why do we have to dig my son up.

2. Our goal is to sell the property, why can’t we just dig up the coffin and rebury the coffin, why do we need to be traumatized by opening his coffin and washing his bones??

Please help me. This goes outside of our religious convictions and does not seem right to force this activity on an American citizen.

The trauma this will have on us as parents is beyond comprehension.

I’m in the process of costuming a film where part of the action takes place in a funeral home where bodies are in caskets. I e-mailed a funeral director I’m acquainted with about how the bodies are dressed and he wrote this:

“There are two major trends in how people are dressed. First, older people are far more likely to be wearing formal outfits like suits or dresses than those who die before they’re about 40. Young people are generally buried wearing casual clothing. Second, shoes and other foot coverings are far more likely to be brought if the deceased is male. Most women are buried barefoot regardless of outfit, but very few men are. So a blouse, jeans, and bare feet would be realistic for a woman in her twenties and a suit with polished shoes for a man in his seventies.”

Does this seem accurate? I’ve never really given this much thought. I’m a girl, and I suppose I’d rather be barefoot if my family insisted on burying me in a ridiculous plush casket.

Even though he has not passed in the line of duty. Or should it only be used for military personnel or line of duty deaths.
