Our family had a similar situation in the mid-50s. It’s very possible that your brother was buried in the gown they planned to have him christened in or in the layette they planned for him to wear when they brought him home from the hospital. A great way to see the type of clothes that everyday people wore in the day is through sewing patterns. I can’t post a photo there but if you type “1960s christening gown” or “1960s baby layette” into Google you’ll find lots of examples. Both Pinterest and Etsy seem to have a lot. Ebay also has quite a few actual gowns from the period.
