How to Cross-reference Your Student’s Course Pathway with the National Curriculum

What is a Course Pathway?

Spellzone is a dynamic resource that allows students to work on tailored Course Pathways at their own pace.

When a student logs into Spellzone for the first time, they will be prompted to sit the Spelling Ability Test

The test will take approximately five minutes (depending on the student) and will identify any gaps in the student’s knowledge.

Upon completing the test, each student will receive a Spellzone Score and a learning pathway that will indicate where they should begin the course and which units they should study.

A typical Course Pathway is eight units long. Each subsequent time the student logs in they will be guided directly to the next page on their Course Pathway until they reach the end.

At this point, they will be prompted to retake the Spelling Ability Test and a new Spellzone Score and Course Pathway will be generated.

How can I check what units are on my student’s Course Pathway and cross-reference them with the National Curriculum?

To see the units on a student's pathway, click on the blue ‘Students’ tab, choose a student, and then click on the green ‘Course Pathway’ tab.

Compare the work your student has done to the National Curriculum by clicking on the green ‘Results’ tab, the red ‘Spelling Course’ tab, and then on ‘Course tests table’. Set the time period, choose England from the dropdown menu, and then click on ‘Apply’.

Find this information for a whole class by clicking on the blue ‘Classes’ tab, choosing a class, and then clicking on ‘View course tests for this class’. Once again, set the time period, choose England from the dropdown menu, and then click on ‘Apply’.

How can I fill any gaps in my student’s Course Pathway?

If your student answers the questions linked to a particular unit correctly in the Spelling Ability Test, that unit will not appear on their Course Pathway. If, after comparing their pathway to the National Curriculum, you would like to fill any gaps in their learning, you can set the relevant unit as a task. The student will then be prompted to complete the unit alongside their Course Pathway. Learn how to set a unit as a task here
